Mullvad VPN Review 2026: The Privacy Purist's Choice

Why Mullvad Is Different

Mullvad does not run promotional pricing, affiliate programs, or aggressive retargeting. You generate an anonymous account number, pay €5/month, and connect. That business model alignment matters for privacy credibility.

Tunnel Report earns zero commission from Mullvad. We include it because editorial independence means recommending products that serve readers, not just revenue.

Privacy Architecture

Mullvad accepts cash and cryptocurrency payments. No email address is required for account creation. Swedish jurisdiction is not as strong as Switzerland, but Mullvad's operational practices — minimal data collection, open-source clients, public ownership structure — compensate.

All Mullvad apps are open source. The company publishes detailed security documentation and has undergone independent audits.

Performance and Limitations

Mullvad supports WireGuard on all its apps. US-centric users may find server selection smaller than NordVPN or Surfshark.

Streaming geo-unblocking is not Mullvad's focus. If your primary use case is accessing region-locked content, competitors with dedicated streaming infrastructure are better choices.

Who Should Buy Mullvad VPN — and Who Should Not?

Buy Mullvad VPN if Buy Mullvad if anonymous payments, flat honest pricing, and open-source transparency matter more than streaming convenience or affiliate-driven promotions.
